JOYFUL“NOISEMAKERS”—Preschool music program

Instructor – Glenda Garwood  Fridays various times  for half hour classes

“Joyful Noisemakers” is our music and movement preschool program. Classes are limited in size and divided by age.  I use a comprehensive approach to musical learning that develops singing, movement, and listening skills simultaneously with an introduction to musical styles and concepts. “Music for Little Mozarts” is a wonderful curriculum with Mozart Mouse, Beethoven Bear and Clara Schumann-Cat taking the children on fun adventures as we gather each week. The children will have a positive “hands on” experience using rhythm instruments and “Boom Whackers” as they create their own music. I will introduce recorder to the students as they get older, to prepare them for the recorder classes here at Joyful Noise Band. My goal is to prepare your child with a love for the gift of music and to equip them with beginning music theory skills that will enable them to explore their own unique musical gifts with confidence!

RECORDER
Instructor – Lisa Ragan  Fridays 1:00 – 3:00  for half hour classes
Recorder classes at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, are available to give younger home schooled students the opportunity to begin to read music, play real music on the recorder, and understand basic music theory.  Students will be taught proper posture, how to read and play music, and instrument care.  The recorder class is a great way to introduce your child to basic music principles and basic music appreciation.  Available to children age 6 and up, students will learn note recognition and rhythm.  By the end of the year, they will be able to play several songs on a recorder.  This is a great way to prepare your child for beginner band or orchestra.
The recorder classes are limited in size and divided roughly by age and ability.    The recorder season is 23 weeks, and culminates in recitals for family rather than concerts.  This is less threatening for younger students.  Dates for recitals will be posted on our Calendar page.

Beginner Recorder:
This is for students from age 6 who know nothing about music or instruments (or who have come up from our Joyful Noisemakers!).  The class will include gentle instruction in the basics of reading music, learning several notes on the recorder, and playing a variety of simple songs.

Intermediate Recorder:
This class builds on what was learned in Beginner Recorder, adding notes and techniques, as well as more complicated rhythms and more advanced music.

Advanced Recorder:

Typically for third year students, this class continues to build on the student’s ability to play the recorder and read music.  This class may include more music divided into parts and harmony.  Students completing the third year of recorder should be well-prepared to advance rapidly in beginner band.
NEW THIS YEAR JNHSB has purchased recorders to use in class, including sopranino, alto, tenor and bass recorders.  This will allow more variety and interest in the 3rd year class!
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS:  A folding wire stand  and “concert dress.”  Students may provide their own instrument and book or purchase a set(book and instrument)  for only $10 at the first day of class.
