The Joyful Noise Home School Band originated in the heart of our founder and program director, Susan Davis. Wanting a musical education for her own children, Susan soon realized that there weren’t many opportunities for home educated children to participate in a concert band at a reasonable price. After much prayer, she decided to form the Joyful Noise Home School Band. A director was hired, and the first year began with a handful of excited students.
From our first concert in the fall of 1997 we have continued to grow each year. Now, many years later, JNHSB is a ministry to home educated students and their families, who in turn minister to others through the gift of music. Even with four levels of band, plus orchestra, guitar, chorus, jazz, recorder and various other classes for over 150 families, the band is still committed to being affordable for homeschooling families. Susan’s vision that no home educated child should miss out on the experience of music because it isn’t available or affordable continues to guide the band’s policies.
JNHSB students and their families are grateful to the Davis family for their prayers, vision, and sacrifice, without which this music ministry would not exist.
